Lighting Shisha Coals: Our Expert Tutorial

"SOS! My shisha coals are going out!" We've heard this cry for help many times at Darnashop. The most common explanation for shisha smokers is to think they've "run into a bad batch." In reality, carefully starting your session, paying attention to coal ignition, and placing them in the Kaloud at the right time will guarantee you a good heating and, therefore, a good smoke. With this tutorial, Darnashop shares the little secrets that make the difference between a successful preparation and coals that go out. 

HOW TO LIGHT NATURAL COALS WITH AN ELECTRIC PLATE: STEPS TO IGNITE YOUR SHISHA COALS

1/ Step 1: Place your natural coals on your plate

Place your natural coals on your coal starter plate. We recommend a resistance with electric ignition that offers dry heat to ignite your coconut cubes. You can consider the Electric Elephant coal starter plate, which offers excellent value for money. If you have gas at home, you can also ignite your natural coals with gas.

2/ Step 2: Let your natural coals heat up

Let your shisha coals rest on one side. As soon as you see that they have burned halfway, you can move on to the next side. Please take all necessary precautions when handling your shisha coals to avoid burns. To handle the shisha coals, we recommend using shisha coal tongs.

3/ Step 3: Blow gently on your coconut coals

When your coconut coals are lit, gently blow on them to bring them to their maximum heating potential. A slight flame should appear; if not, your coals are not ready.

4/ Step 4: Place your coals in your Kaloud

Your coals are ready! You can then place them in your Kaloud Lotus. We recommend leaving the lid open so that the natural coals do not go out before the final step. Always handle your coals with the necessary precautions.

5/ Step 5: Check the temperature of your coals and close the lid

You can take a puff from your shisha every two minutes thirty to check the temperature while the smoke arrives. Once your shisha is underway, close the lid to retain the heat in your bowl. We recommend taking long and sustained puffs to activate the coal properly and enjoy your session.
